Strange things a foot in search engine land – well for our websites anyway. Today we’ve seen a large surge of traffic from yahoo. And what’s more is that it is gooooood traffic – high conversion ratio traffic. As anyone who dabbles in the voodoo of Search Engine Optimisation can tell you, Yahoo recently dumped Google as a provider of search results and has replace them with their own search technology. Seems that, well for today at least, this new technology likes my SEO style.
One thing that isn’t liking my SEO style is Google’s duplicate content detection algorithms. The site Australian Dating Guide (ADG) just isn’t cutting it in the Google SERPS despite it having better keyword density, higher page rank and heaps more income allinanchor links than the competition.
Anyway I think I know what is happening. Google has decided that ADG is a duplication of the resources/links page inAustralian ezifriends. This is true to some extent as much of ezifriends resources pages is based on the directory from ADG.
As an experiment I have changed ezifriends resources pages by reducing the number of categories and pruning any sites that don’t provide a link back. This has significantly altered the content of these pages so now it just a matter of sitting back and seeing if the duplicate content penality is removed.
